Hi. I'm Frank Wilson. I'm a (retired) PhD software engineer from Cambridge, UK.
I'm a complex, mixed-up individual with eclectic interests that include software engineering, AI, longevity, travel, finance and investing, music, and other things, not necessarily in that order.
My last "proper" holiday (outside Europe) was to Oman in 2023, during Ramadan. (I wondered why the flight was so cheap!) My last decent hiking trip was to Innsbruck and Salzburg last summer (2025). I enjoyed hiking the Innsbruck Nordkette.
As far as music is concerned, I play violin, French horn, trombone, and piano, and I've dabbled with flute and trumpet, but I don't play any of them very well. I've recently been playing mostly Nordic folk fiddle. As a listener (when I have time), it's mainly classical for me, and at a karaoke bar you might find me singing something by Iron Maiden.
I'm happy to have recently discovered neocities.org. Like many people of my generation, I first learned the basics of HTML in the late 1990s and I had a couple of sites on geocities. After Yahoo took over geocities and closed it down I transferred those sites elsewhere, but before long paying for hosting started to feel a bit pointless. Since then I've dabbled with creating content on Tumblr and blogspot, but neither of those have really worked for me as an adequate substitute for what geocities used to be in its heyday. Neocities looks like it might have potential, though.
I'm now living in my fifth country and 29th house.
